Tokio Hotel
Tokio Hotel is a German pop rock band formed in 2001 in Magdeburg by two twin brothers from eastern Germany, Bill and Tom Kaulitz. After watching the brothers duo perform, bassist Georg Listing and drummer Gustav Schäfer joined them. At the time of the band’s formation, its members were between 12 and 14 years old.
In 2007, when young people all over the world wore long black and pink bangs and dark clothes, Tokio Hotel became the trendsetters of emo fashion, and lead singer Bill Kaulitz, who eyelined his eyes with a black pencil, became an idol for millions of girls and guys. Today the German band performs synth-pop, tops the charts and still gathers full halls of fans.
In less than a week, Tokio Hotel’s first released song reached the top of the charts in Germany. Durch den Monsun was appreciated in Australia, Great Britain and Canada. At the same time the team shot a music video, which was relentlessly played on all major TV channels. Music and the epathetic look of the twins – at the age of 14 they both had piercings, Tom wore long dreadlocks, and Bill painted his nails on his hands and black eyeliner – did their job, and in a matter of days the band gathered a lot of fans.
