MANESKIN
Måneskin is an Italian rock band whose members are vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raji and drummer Ethan Torchio. A testament to rock ‘n’ roll’s prosperity is the triumphant ascent to European musical Olympus in 2021 by the Italian quartet Måneskin. The young members of the group in the photo look like aliens from the last century thanks to their clothes and makeup, and the music of the group corresponds to the rhythms of half a century ago.
The quartet’s lineup has not changed since its formation in late 2015: vocalist Damiano David, guitarist Thomas Raji, drummer Ethan Torchio and bassist Victoria De Angelis. The only girl in Måneskin is the author of the band’s name. Victoria is half Danish, and the guys asked the fair sex to say a few phrases in Danish. The sound of the word combination Måneskin, which means “moonlight” in Hans Christian Andersen’s language, was to the young Italians’ liking.
All four musicians are almost the same age. Victoria and Ethan were born in 2000, Damiano – a year earlier than this couple, and Thomas – a year later. In the best traditions of rock bands, three of the quartet went to school together, and then – at the John F. Kennedy Lyceum in Rome, and only Torchio was found thanks to an announcement on social networks.
In 2017, the group, who often performed on the streets of Rome, won 2nd place on the Italian version of the television vocal talent show The X Factor.
