Toto Cutugno
Salvatore Cutugno is an Italian singer and composer. He is known for his collaboration with such performers as Adriano Celentano, Joe Dassen, Dalida, Ricchi e Poveri. Famous for his song “L’italiano”. Winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 in Zagreb. Coutugno is a favorite of the public all over the world, and his compositions have long been taken apart for quotations.
The singer’s creative path began at 13, when he took part in an accordionist competition and won 3rd place. Considering that most of the participants were older than Toto by several years, it was a success for the young talent. Toto Cutugno’s rapid growth as a composer began in 1974, when he met the poet V. Pallavicini. The result of their collaboration was one of the most famous hits in the 20th century – “Africa”, which was sung by Frenchman Joe Dassin.
In 1983 Coutugno writes one of the most famous songs “L’italiano” (better known in Russia as “Lachate mi cantare”), with which he performs at “San Remo-83”, and the album with the hit becomes golden. The song did not take the 1st place at the festival, but according to the results of the Italians’ voting, it beat everyone. In the same year, the musician presented a music video for the song. It is interesting that initially this composition was intended for Adriano Celentano, but the latter for unknown reasons refused it.
Today, the singer is healthy, energetic, gives concerts and tours.
