Biography

Sade is a British musical group consisting of Shade Adu, Stuart Matthewman, Paul Spencer Denman and Andrew Hale. The band is named after the band’s sole vocalist, Shade Adu, and is often associated only with her.

The band’s music is eclectic in nature, combining elements of soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, and soft rock music. The band debuted in 1984 and enjoyed great commercial success throughout the 1980s, 1990s and into the 2000s worldwide. Since the band’s 1985 debut album, Diamond Life, the band has sold nearly 17 million copies of their albums in the United States alone and over 50 million copies worldwide.

A multiple Grammy nominee and four-time winner of Grammy Awards and other prestigious recording industry awards. In 2010, the band released their first new studio album in a decade, Soldier of Love.

Shadeh and her musician friends both in dress, appearance and demeanor differ from most pop music stars. The singer does not wall off her listeners either in concert or in life. Having become a celebrity, she, as before, lives in a poor London neighborhood in the building of a former fire station and rarely attends social gatherings. Her songs increasingly reflect the problems of ordinary people.
