Leona Lewis
Leona Louise Lewis is a British singer who won the third season of the television show The X Factor in 2006.
Singer Leona Lewis possesses vocals whose sound can bring you to tears. Her ballad “Bleeding Love,” about those who literally “bleed love,” can be compared in popularity only to Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” The star has conquered numerous music awards in her 10-year career, but has yet to earn a Grammy.
Throughout The X Factor show, Lewis has been compared to Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Powerful vocals and a fine sense of music took the girl to the final and then to the top of the podium. The prize was a £1 million contract with Simon Cowell’s record company Syco Music. This was a key moment in the biography of Leona Lewis.
In December 2006, the singer’s debut single “A Moment Like This” (a cover of Kelly Clarkson) was released. It instantly became a record-breaker: in the UK for 30 minutes the song was downloaded more than 50 thousand times. The record sold 571k copies in one week, more than the sales of the entire UK Christmas top 40 chart. After recovering from the success, Lewis went on to record her debut studio album “Spirit” (2007).
The most famous track from the compilation and the singer’s calling card is “Bleeding Love”. In 2008, the single became the best-selling single in the world, reaching number one in 36 countries, including Japan, Germany and the United States. After Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997”, this song became the second song in the history of music to achieve such success.
