Kelis
Kelis Rogers-Jones is an American singer and songwriter who performs under her given name, Kels. Rogers had an early start in music. At the age of two, she was already singing in the church choir and later began performing in the Harlem Children’s Choir. Talented Kelis studied at a prestigious private school in Menhattan and then diligently mastered the piano, violin and saxophone.
When Rogers received her graduation diploma from La Guardia School, her friends introduced her to the production group Neptunes. From that point on, Kelis’ career took off. In 1999 her first single Caught Out There was released, and at the same time the video for this song was in rotation. Following the single, the singer recorded her debut album Kaleidoscope. The record was not recognized in the U.S., but in the old world was received with pleasure. Then the disk Kelis rose to the Top 40 of the British hit parade, and the singer herself won the Brit Awards – for Best Debut.
After a short tour, the singer began work on a new album Wanderland, which was released in 2001. The disc was full of duet tracks with artists such as Basta Rhymes, Timo Maas, Foxy Brown, OutKast, Guru, Nas and Gwen Stefani.
Kelis’ third LP, Tasty, appeared in 2003. There were less bright duets here, but the producers of Neptunes seriously worked on the content of the disk and sound. The singer was finally recognized in her home country, the USA.
