ICONA POP

Pop Group
Biography

Icona Pop is a Swedish electropop duo formed by Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt in 2010.

After meeting at one of Caroline Hjelt’s parties, the girls became friends and started writing songs. In 2011, they recorded the mini-album Nights Like This and the single “Manners”; a sample from its chorus was used by American hip-hop collective Chiddy Bang on the track “Mind Your Manners”. In the spring of 2012, Icona Pop presented the song “I Love It”, written by British singer Charli XCX and produced by Patrick Berger, who had previously worked on Robyn’s hit “Dancing on My Own”.

In the duo’s home country, the single reached number two on the charts and also reached the top ten on the New Zealand chart. In the U.S., the song gained notoriety for being featured on the opening episodes of MTV’s reality show Snooki & J-Wow. After signing with Big Beat Records (a subsidiary label of Atlantic Records Group) and releasing another single, “Ready for the Weekend”, Icona Pop began work on a long-playing LP. On October 16, 2012, the mini-album The Iconic was released.
