GORILLAZ
Gorillaz is a virtual music band from the United Kingdom that celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018. During this time, the artists have created dozens of recognizable tracks, including “Feel Good Inc”, “Clint Eastwood”, “19-2000”, and earned a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records as “Most Successful Virtual Group”. Gorillaz’s trademark is music videos, which are more like short cartoons than video versions of songs.
The opportunity to make a name for himself was Albarn’s acquaintance with comic book artist Jamie Hewlett in 1990. At Graham’s request, the musician convinced his new acquaintance to interview Blur for Deadline magazine. The material appeared on the same page as the Tank Girl comic strip.
Despite the fact that Hewlett helped the band to promote, the relationship between the creative people did not develop. One day the musicians were watching MTV, and Hewlett noticed how disgusting and stupid the artists sometimes look. The artist jokingly suggested to his friend to create a group, the characters of which will be not only invented, but also drawn. Albarn agreed, and so in 1997 began the “biography” of the band, which originally bore the name Gorilla.
