Biography

Estelle is a popular British singer, songwriter and producer. Until mid-2000, the talent of Estelle, a renowned RnB singer and performer from West London, remained underrated. Although her debut record The 18th Day was noticed by influential music critics and her biographical single “1980” received positive reviews, the singer remained in the shadows until 2008.

The full name of the performer is Estelle Fanta Sway. The girl was born on January 18, 1980 in the territory of London. Estelle was brought up in a large family. She was the second child on the count. In total, the parents brought up 9 children.

At first, the budding singer performed on the platforms of restaurants and karaoke bars. A little later, Estelle appeared in the company of Manuva and Rodney P. She did not miss her chance to perform at the artists “on the warm-up”, than secured a place in the sun. Her career took an unexpected “leap” after she was spotted by Kanye West. The rapper introduced the aspiring singer to John Legend, and he helped her record several musical compositions, which were eventually included in Estelle’s debut album.

Soon the discography of the performer was supplemented with her first studio album. The collection was called The 18th Day. The record received many positive reviews from music critics. The track “1980” (from Estelle’s debut album) is still considered the singer’s calling card.

After the release of the record, Estelle starred in John Legend’s music video for the song Save Room. Subsequently, the singer signed a lucrative contract with John’s label Homeschool Records.
