Biography

The Eagles are an American rock band performing melodic guitar-driven country rock and soft rock. Over the years, they have topped the American pop singles charts five times and the album charts four times. The Eagles were one of the most popular American bands of the 1970s, playing mostly country and soft rock. Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, released by the band in 1976, became the most commercially successful album of all time with a total of 38 million copies sold.

The history of the band dates back to 1971, when 4 musicians who had immigrated to Los Angeles from other parts of the country came together to form a new musical group. In September of the same year, the young men signed a contract with manager David Geffen, agreeing to work with the new music label Asylum Records. Shortly thereafter, they proclaimed themselves “The Eagles”.

In February 1972, the band flew to England with producer Glyn Jones for a 2-week recording session of their eponymous first CD. In the summer of that year, in June, they made their long-awaited debut. The album entered the top 20 and went gold just over a year and a half after its release. The most successful songs were “Take It Easy,” “Witchy Woman,” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”
