Diplo

DJ
Biography

Diplo (Diplo) is not just an American DJ, but a music designer who created his own unique direction of baile funk, or “tropical” house. Thanks to his electronic arrangements, some songs by Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Shakira, No Doubt and Snoop Dogg became worldwide hits. Achievements brought not only fame, but also money: in 2018 Forbes magazine put Diplo on the 6th place in the list of highly paid DJs – his annual income is $28.5 million.

From the biography of Thomas, only the main facts are known. In 1997, a young man was enrolled at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, Florida), then – at Temple University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). Here he first showed himself as a music designer: together with DJ Low Budget in 2003 he started playing sets under the name “Hooked on Hollertronix”.

Born by two musicians hollertronix turned into a whole direction. Later it was reflected in the work of M.I.A., Lil Jon, Björk, Busta Rhymes and others. The mixtape “Never Scared”, released by Thomas together with DJ Low Budget, became one of the top 10 best albums according to “The New York Times”, and Diplo’s first and only studio solo record “Florida” (2004) allowed him to dedicate his life to music.
