Dan Balan
Dan Balan has come a long way from an unknown Moldovan performer to a global star, collaborating with Rihanna, Jesse Dylan and other popular artists. His talent could have gone unnoticed, as the parents of the future musician prepared him for the fate of a lawyer, but Dan was more persistent and followed his own path.
At the beginning of his creative biography, the artist was fond of underground sound. But heavy music soon bored Dan, who saw himself as a musician playing in different styles. The singer began to write harmonious works in the pop genre, for which his friends accused him of indulging the public and going into commerce. The artist had to leave the band Inferialis for a solo voyage. The musician recorded his first solo song Delamine in 1998 and began to think about a new project.
By 1999 Dan finally formed the image and repertoire of the future collective, which was named O-Zone. According to Balan, it is both ozone, which the air smells after rain, and “Zone 0”, which in the mobile network Conex means the territory of Moldova.
In 2005 Balan decided to pursue a solo career and officially closed the group O-Zone. In 2006, the musician went to the USA. Balan’s worldwide popularity opened doors for him to collaborate with many music stars. In particular, he wrote the composition Live yourlife for Rihanna, which brought him a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2009.
