Angie Stone
Angie Stone is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, pianist, and producer. Angie occasionally appears on screens as an actress.
Angie Stone’s real name is Angela Laverne Brown. The singer was born on December 18, 1961 in South Carolina. There she began her career in the choir of a local church with Pastor Blakely N. Scott, who first noted Angela’s musical talent. As a child, Angela played basketball and wrote poetry. And, when alone at home, she loved to sing the songs of her idols – Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and Donna Hathaway. Working a hopeless and uninteresting job, she saved money for her demo recording.
Stone, then Angie B., began her musical career as a member of the all-female funk trio The Sequence. In 1980, they had a hit song, “Funk You Up,” which reached number 15 on the U.S. Black Singles Chart. After that, Stone worked with rappers “Mantronix” and recorded an album with Lenny Kravitz. And she began work on the neo-soul trio Vertical Hold, which in 1989 presented its first work, the gangster rap single “Summertime.”
And in 1996, she was taken under her wing by Gerry DeVeaux, Lenny Kravitz’s cousin. Under his guidance, Stone teamed up with Charlie Maule to form the duo Devox. This duo recorded 1 studio album of Angie’s written songs. Also during this time she recorded 2 albums with D’Angelo and in support of these albums they did a joint US tour.
