Alphaville
Alphaville is a German synthpop band that was very popular in the mid-1980s. Formed in 1982, the band was founded by Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens. The band was originally called Forever Young, but later changed its name to Alphaville.
Every self-respecting fan of vintage music knows the song Forever Young by Alphaville. This German band, playing in the genre of synth-pop, gave the world another timeless hit Big in Japan. Despite the fact that now the discography of Alphaville counts a dozen albums, and concert activity continues, there are no more songs comparable in popularity with these “imperishables”.
The history of Alphaville began with the acquaintance of vocalist Marian Gold and keyboardist Bernhard Lloyd at the project Nelson Community, which was conceived as a union of creative youth. The two musicians started playing together in 1982, then another keyboardist Frank Mertens joined the lineup.
The artists started under the name Forever Young. In 1983 they recorded a demo of the same name and realized how boring the band looked with a song named after themselves. The new name was Alphaville – in honor of the 1965 anti-utopia thriller.
