Eurythmics
Eurythmics is a British synth-pop duo founded in 1980 by composer and musician Dave Stewart and singer Annie Lennox.
The work of avant-garde synth-pop duo Eurythmics, hailing from the UK, exploded the music charts around the world long before the age of the Internet and Instagram. The band’s compositions, in particular the sensational Sweet dreams (Are made of this), do not lose their relevance even now, which is proved by dozens of modern cover versions.
The history of The Eurythmics began in 1977, when Brit Dave Stewart, together with his friend Peter Coomes, who is a songwriter and performer, organized the pop band The Tourists.
Soon the guys decided to offer cooperation to Annie Lennox, a Scottish student of the Royal Academy of Music, whom she later left for the sake of participating in the group. In the educational institution the girl studied keyboard and flute.
Popularity abroad did not last long – Sweet dreams rose to the top of the American charts, and the photo of Annie Lennox with the same hairstyle as in the video adorned the cover of the glossy magazine Rolling Stone. Dave Stewart told in one of the interviews that the popular bass part, which instantly became the main feature of the song, was created by accident – while rewinding another track of the band.
In 2005, a compilation of Eurythmics’ best compositions called Ultimate Collection with two new songs was released to celebrate the synth-pop band’s 25th anniversary.
