Lorde
Lorde is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and music producer. Beginning her career in 2009, Ella signed to the Universal Music Group label as a teenager and later began work on her debut album with producer Joel Little, who co-wrote most of Lorde’s songs.
Lorde’s music combines concentrated lyrics and layered vocals with a “crispness”.
The artist’s road to the big stage began when she was still in high school. She in a duet with a friend won 1st place in the school talent search competition. Then the guys were invited to Radio New Zealand National. Ella’s friend’s father sent a recording of the collaboration to the Universal Music Group label. And Ella was offered a collaboration.
During 2010 Ella and her friend Luis performed at festivals, they also often played in cafes. The year 2011 was difficult, but not less successful. Ella practiced with a vocal tutor hired by the label. In the fall of the same year, Ella performed her own songs instead of covers for the first time.
Her debut single “Royals”, released in March 2013, became a hit worldwide, topping the national charts in New Zealand, Italy, the UK, and the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Lorde the only New Zealand artist with such an achievement.
